Whale Watching in Bora Bora:
An Unforgettable Encounter
with Ocean Giants
Every year from July to November, the waters of French Polynesia welcome humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) that migrate from Antarctica to breed and give birth in the warmth of tropical lagoons. Bora Bora is one of the rare places on Earth where these majestic marine mammals can be observed up close, with full respect for their natural environment.
Bora Ocean Adventures offers guided whale watching tours led by experienced and passionate naturalist guides.
A magical experience
A supervised and immersive excursion
Humpback whales measure between 12 and 16 meters and can weigh up to 40 tons. In French Polynesia, they arrive to reproduce after their epic migration from Antarctica. You may witness spectacular breaches, tail slapping, or the whale gliding silently right beneath the boat. In July and August, it's common to spot mothers accompanied by calves born just weeks before.
Our boats approach the whales in strict compliance with French Polynesian whale protection regulations. Our naturalist guides share their knowledge of the behavior and biology of these fascinating animals. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and departs from Vaitape, Bora Bora's main harbor.
Depending on conditions, swimming with the whales may be offered an absolutely unique and moving experience. Mask and snorkel are provided.
